It’s humorously told in this short article but it’s very true indeed. I would even add that Pirates in the 17th century were politically very progressive in ways that were impossible on land because you would be murdered by the elites. But let us not forget the medieval peasant revolts and the radical Franciscans of the 13 & 14th century… but they were all murdered.
