  • April is Cesarean Awareness Month

  • Florida currently has a 38.9% cesarean rate, third highest in the US

  • Florida’s rate of c-sections is more than double what the World Health Organization considers a safe number

  • The 2nd Annual Central Florida Mom Prom will be held at the UCF Radisson on Saturday, April 25, 2015, from 7-11pm

  • Tickets are $50 and proceeds benefit local ICAN (International Cesarean Awareness Network) chapters

Okay, so maybe you didn’t have the best time at your *own* prom, but wasn’t getting dressed up fun?  How about spending time dancing the night away, and hanging with all your besties?  That’s what this event is all about…..let your hair down, throw on an old bridesmaid dress (or heck, treat yourself to a new one), or just come as you are and enjoy this fundraiser, benefiting the local Orlando ICAN* chapters.

Best part?  No one there will be crying in the bathroom because some boy ruined her night.  It’s a ladies only event.  (Or maybe the best part is that at THIS prom, there will be a bar.  Maybe no one will spike the punchbowl, but you can just straight up order a cocktail.)

Also, there are swag bags to ALL attendees and one lucky lady will be crowned Prom Queen!  Prom Queen is selected by raffle, and you can buy as many tickets for that as you like.  We will also have silent auctions and other raffles- you get one raffle ticket with your admission, and more are available for purchase either in advance or at the event.  That ticket also gets you non-alcoholic drinks and light hors d’oeuvres.  Tickets may be purchased online for $50 in advance at the event website, centralfloridamomprom.com.

Since they make any party even better, we will have a photo booth there, too!  The theme is #RockThe80s and we will have plenty of nostalgic stuff to pose with.  You can also come all decked out in your hottest neon colors, big shoulder pads, jelly shoes, legwarmers, and fingerless gloves.  Get your tickets today!

*Central Florida Mom Prom is hosted by three local chapters of ICAN; ICAN of Orlando,ICAN of East Central Florida, and ICAN of Brevard. Central Florida’s three ICAN chapters hold monthly mother-to-mother support meetings several times a month. The meetings offer support to women recovering from cesareans,  provide education of evidence based maternity care, and advocate for informed decision making within our community.

The United States ranks 45th in the world for maternal safety, despite having the world’s highest maternity costs. The increased cesarean section rate is one factor linked to that stark statistic.
