Lots of arguments going on about the legacy of Hugo Chavez.

Here’s a good documentary on Chavez in the broader context of Latin America’s 500+ years genocide, slavery, exploitation, and poverty. There are many other sources on this.

of course saying anything good about Chavez is controversial in the US and many other rich countries.

So we are looking for available air-time to discuss this and examine the big picture. Also, I will write a very short obituary in the East Orlando Post as soon as I can…
In the meantime, check out these 2 articles:
Defending Chavez: http://www.thenation.com/article/173212/legacy-hugo-chavez
Most well-meaning (but somewhat misinformed) people relied on this one to establish how bad Chavez was: http://www.hrw.org/news/2013/03/05/venezuela-chavez-s-authoritarian-legacy (I’m very disappointed in Human Rights Watch for providing information with NO CONTEXT AT ALL–Fox/MSNBC style)
Hugo Chavez was a great man.

Like all great men he was a complicated man in a complicated situation. But he created the first democracy in Latin America and even enabled the wave of liberty and justice beyond his own Venezuela. Also, he was the first indigenous leader to overcome the racist colonial and postcolonial regimes in the region for 500+ years since the Spanish conquest.
