We’ll try to disentangle some of the complexities of the “War on Drugs” from many perspectives including economics, politics, ethics, public policy, foreign policy, finance, sociology, social-psychology, etc*.

BTW, we have been regularly discussing this popular topic since Show #4 back in October 2012.

* We’re only qualified as experts on a few of these, but have no compunctions to shot our mouths off like everybody else. #UndistinguishedProfessor

2-4pm live on WPRK91.5FM in Central Florida (or live online).

I’ve been discussing this with Avi in between work since we hired him last year, and have learned a great deal from this promising young (old) Institutional Economist!

He’ll tell us about his PhD research at the University of Missouri at Kansas City (UMKC).

Podcast will be posted as soon as our day-jobs allow ;)

We’re back to Wednesdays 2-4pm

It will be our 111’s show!

>>> PUNKONOMICS returns to WEDNESDAYS 2-4PM <<<

Posted: 2016/01/19 by Punkonomics (@dearbalak) in Announcements

After trying out a switch with our besties’ show, we decided to go back and do our thing on Wednesdays and have the cool eclectic francophone tunes of FRENCH DISCONNECTION fill your 1-3pm on Saturdays. So get ready for some extra crazy punkonomics tomorrow 2-4pm.

Tune in to listen to Adrian Wyllie, Libertarian candidate for Governor of Florida, discuss his campaign and the issues that set him apart from the other candidates with Jesse and me. We hope to get callers too and especially welcome socialists/greens who have little representation in Florida (or the US for that matter) and who are the other side of the real political debate.

Listen 2-4PM on 91.5FM in the Orlando area or online at

Call us during the show at: 407.646.2915

We will have 2 Rollins students who are uber-conservative to talk about war and foreign policy. One of them is a former and current student of mine with whom I’ve enjoyed many heated arguments so it should be good :)

They will be there for the 2nd half of the show–we’ll start with other current events.

>>> as usual podcast will follow some time next week <<<

It’s The Global Peace Film Festival Special Today!

We have 2 confirmed guests (maybe a 3rd, maybe who the @#$% knows… it’s PUNKonomics yo!)

(1) Lisa Tillmann – Director

Weight Problem: Cultural Narratives of Fat and Obesity. Weight Problem examines whose interests are served by the ways media, culture, and the medical establishment represent issues pertaining to body shape, size, weight, and fat. The film challenges taken-for-granted notions about the so-called ‘obesity crisis’ and ‘epidemic.’

(2) Edgar Barens – Director

Prison Terminal: The Last Days of Private Jack Hall. A moving cinema verité documentary that breaks through the walls of one of Americas oldest maximum security prisons to tell the story of the final months in the life of a terminally ill prisoner and the hospice volunteers, themselves prisoners, who care for him. The film draws from footage shot over a six-month period behind the walls of the Iowa State Penitentiary and provides a fascinating and often poignant account of how the hospice experience can profoundly touch even the forsaken lives of the incarcerated.

  • Last week’s show about the New Jim Crow will be available as podcast and on this blog very soon–that extra long show will be provided in 2 parts and it rocked!
  • As usual we’re live Wednesday’s 2-4pm on WPRK91.5FM in Central Florida and then podcasts available here and via the usual places a few days after (as soon as we can).
