DemocracyNow.org: NSA, FBI, DIA Sued over Refusal to Disclose U.S. Role in Imprisonment of Nelson Mandela

We know that The US, and especially Republicans including President Reagan and Donald Rumsfeld among others, helped the racist South African Apartheid regime and tried to stop the global movement to dismantle it. But Here are some more ugly facts. At the very least this should make Americans think about their role in defending “freedom” and “liberty” then and, more importantly, NOW.

Ray Jasper is set to be executed in Texas on March 19. He has written an important letter (above link) regarding the prison industrial complex, capital punishment, black identity and the pressures of systemic racism. Sadly, these are the same problems that have been around for decades and, at least in Texas, things do not seem to be getting any better.
“We look at slavery like it’s a thing of the past, but you can go to any penitentiary in this nation and you’ll see slavery.”
“It’s not about crime and punishment, it’s about crime and profit.”
“Black history shouldn’t be a month, it should be a course taught year round.”
“The death penalty needs to be abolished. Life without parole is still a death sentence. The only difference is time. To say you need to kill a person in a shorter amount of time is just seeking revenge on that person.”
In the US it’s perfectly legal to shoot non-whites so long as you kill them dead >:(

‘It’s a nice project, a great project but where are the white heroes?’
Posted: 2014/02/10 by Punkonomics (@dearbalak) in Links/Articles/VideoTags: Danny Glover, Haiti, Haitian revolution, Hollywood, racism, Toussaint L'ouverture
“Producers said ‘It’s a nice project, a great project but where are the white heroes?'” Actor Danny Glover told the press during a stay in Paris for a seminar on film.
“I couldn’t get the money here, I couldn’t get the money in Britain. I went to everybody. You wouldn’t believe the number of producers based in Europe, and in the States, that I went to,” he said.
Glover’s first project as film director, is about Toussaint L’ouverture and the Haitian rebellion. The government of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez approved nearly $30 million toward the movie. Don Cheadle, Mos Def, Wesley Snipes and Angela Bassett all agreed to do the film…if it can ever be made.
Thanks to Darrin “Bird” Burgess for this
